About the choir

Antidotum Choir

The Antidotum Choir is an intergenerational, amateur mixed choir from Kielce, Poland. It was founded in 2009 by people with no musical background, inspired by the Swedish idea of choirs for "people who cannot sing". True to that idea, even people of average ability can — through regular practice, a patient teacher and a warm, friendly atmosphere — learn to sing, and to do so in multi-part harmony, in a way that brings satisfaction not only to themselves but to their listeners.

Ewa Robak agreed to conduct this unusual choir, formed a priori, and it proved a perfect match. Her experience and passion helped the choir not only overcome its early difficulties but reach a level that allows it to take part in competitions and festivals. Still, what matters most remains the time spent together, the joy of what we do, and the motto that has guided us from the start: whoever you are, and whether or not you know what a ligature or a multi-bar rest is, singing in a choir can be a true Antidotum for you.

Conductor

The conductor of the Antidotum Choir, Professor Ewa Robak (PhD, DSc), is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków and a member of the Music Department at the Faculty of Art of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, where she teaches choir, conducting, vocal ensembles and conducting practice. She also leads the Fermata Chamber Choir and the children's choir of the State Music Schools in Kielce. She serves on the juries of choral and vocal competitions and runs workshops for choirmasters and choral ensembles across Poland.

For years she has been getting the people of Kielce singing, from preschoolers to seniors, at countless events great and small. Her boundless teaching drive means she sees singing potential in virtually any group — one moment of inattention and you too may discover that you are singing in one of her ensembles.
